Swedish Handball Federation
Scaling live coverage across one of Sweden’s largest indoor sports ecosystems
Swedish Handball has one of the most active and widespread competition structures in Swedish sport, with 50 000+ matches played every year across senior, youth, club, and tournament levels.
Together with Solidsport, Swedish Handball has built a scalable streaming ecosystem that brings live coverage to competitions from the second tier and down, making more handball accessible to fans, families, clubs, players, and the wider handball community.
The challenge
Swedish Handball needed a streaming solution that could handle the size and complexity of a national sports ecosystem, securing control and ownership of their sports digital presents and media rights at the same time.
With hundreds of clubs, thousands of teams, and a large number of youth tournaments, the federation required more than just a video platform. They needed a complete digital infrastructure capable of managing live broadcasts, match data, schedules, statistics, graphics, and club-level activation at scale.
The goal was clear: increase visibility, simplify operations, create new commercial opportunities and make more games available to the handball community without creating unnecessary manual work for clubs or federation staff. Because apparently running a national sport is not already enough administrative joy.
The solution
Solidsport provides Swedish Handball with a custom OTT platform designed specifically for the federation’s structure and needs.
The platform supports live coverage across the second tier and below, including club competitions, youth tournaments, and thousands of team-level matches every year.
Through complete data integration and automated game scheduling, matches can be published and prepared for streaming with minimal manual handling. Real-time live statistics and automated graphics create a professional viewing experience across all levels of the sport, not only at the elite level.
The solution also supports player cards and extended engagement features, with a sports engagement app coming as the next step in the digital development of Swedish Handball’s streaming ecosystem.

The impact
The partnership has created one of the most extensive digital coverage models in Swedish sport.
Each year, Swedish Handball’s streaming ecosystem delivers more than 20,000 livestreams, reaches 250,000 users, and generates around 20 million views. This gives clubs, players, families, and fans access to a level of visibility that was previously impossible to achieve at this scale.
By combining automated workflows with a dedicated OTT platform, Swedish Handball can offer broad live coverage without relying on heavy manual administration. Clubs and teams gain new visibility, fans get better access to games, and the federation strengthens its digital relationship with the handball community.
“When players and referees can review their performances and grow, when families and friends can follow their children and teammates no matter where they play – then we are building Swedish handball from the ground up. For the clubs, it means visibility and revenue that strengthens their activities. With new technology, we can take another step forward – more matches will be automatically produced while the entire handball community gains a safe, reliable platform with an improved experience. This takes us closer to our shared vision: a handball that reaches everyone, develops everyone, and engages everyone and everywhere:
– Robert Wedberg, Secretary General of the Swedish Handball Federation
